Just a few days away from Father’s Day and you might still be unsure what to do with the “old” man. Well, Telluride offers a ton of activities that can make your father enjoy his special day. If you are on a tight budget, and dad might not be as extreme as he used to, Telluride still offers plenty of options to go out and enjoy the sunshine without doing the extreme.
Below, you can find The Hotel Telluride's list of the top five things to do with your Father at ski resorts.
1. Paddle Board at Wood's Lake
Paddle Boards are available at local shop Jagged Edge in Telluride for $25.00 each for the entire day. They'll even load it up on your car! Trout Lake is also a fun destination to take a paddle, but our favorite is Woods Lake. There are also picnic table and day use areas to grill up a nice reward after the two of you are done at the lake.
2. Rent a jeep, and let him drive!
We feel that Other Pass offers the most beginner, yet scenic off-roading in the area. You can take him across offer pass and shave the extra 1 hour it takes to get to Silverton. Check out Handlebars in Silverton and treat old dad to a burger and a beer while you are at it.
3. Bike the historic Galloping Goose railroad trestle
Pick up a bike from Bootdoctors and hit the trail, well trestle. This bike trail is for mainly all levels and yields amazing views of Ilium. Pack a picnic and break by the Ilium Falls at the very end of the hike before you turn around and come back.
4. Step onto Higher Ground with the Via Ferrata
The Via Ferrata is an incredibly unique experience to Telluride. No previous climbing skills necessary, and regular sneakers work just fine. You will need to call San Juan Outdoor School and hire a professional Guide to take you on 'the road of iron' that wraps itself around the back of the back of the box canyon and stands about 200 feet off the ground. As long as he isn't afraid of heights - you can't beat these views.
5. Take a hike
With him! There are so many lovely hikes around town. Bear Creek Falls or the Judwiebe are both easily accessible from the town of Telluride. Ask our front desk for a hiking map!
Happy Father's Day!
