San Juan Mountains in Colorado

The Hotel Telluride Blog

Today was a 'Blast' in Telluride!

Every winter as conditions become unsafe, bombs are used on Ajax Peak to set off a massive avalanche to protect life and property in Telluride, Colorado.  Ajax Peak is one of the iconic mountain tops that backdrops the town of Telluride.  It is adjacent to the famous Bridal Veil Falls and Bridal Veil House/ Hydro-power plant.

That's what happened this morning as onlookers (aware and unaware of the blast) stood in the middle of main street to watch the tidal wave of snow and then 'poof' land at the bottom of Bridal Veil basin.

Check out this photo below.

And to 'have a blast' for yourself, we have attached 2012's yearly Ajax blast in a video here for you to watch.

It's Snow Joke!

Telluride has received 2 feet of fresh powder in the last 5 days!

If you can't be here to enjoy it, live vicariously through this video provided by Telluride Lodging.
