Low Air fare to Telluride Announced!
LOW COST AIRLINE ALLEGIANT INTRODUCES DIRECT FLIGHTS FROM SAN FRANCISCO AND PHOENIX TO MONTROSE
TELLURIDE, CO--(Sept. 25, 2012) – Thanks to a deal the Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization (TMRAO) negotiated with Allegiant Air, the slopes and Main Street should be bustling with an abundance of guests from the San Francisco Bay area and Phoenix this winter.
Starting with regular bi-weekly flights in December, Allegiant will fly direct between Montrose and Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Phoenix-Mesa airport (IWA) at a greatly reduced rate. Prior to Allegiant service, average round-trip fares from the San Francisco Bay area and Phoenix ranged between $400 to $600 to the region. This winter, Allegiant will offer an introductory one-way fare from Oakland from as low as $113 ($226 round-trip) and from Phoenix starting as low as $83 one-way ($166 round-trip)

“The Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization (TMRAO) has been researching and pursuing a low-cost carrier for more than a year. Allegiant offers competitive pricing and increased accessibility for both visitors and locals,” said Scott Stewart, TMRAO Executive Director. “These new flights add an additional 10,000 seats to this winter’s air service and will have a very positive economic impact on the region’s economy.”
Securing Allegiant as a new airline partner was a collaborative effort that would not have been possible without the strong partnership of the TMRAO, Montrose Regional Airport and additional supplemental funding from the City of Montrose, the Town of Telluride, the Town of Mountain Village and the Telluride Ski Resort.
In an unprecedented regional collaboration effort, the TMRAO also sought funds from the Gunnison and Crested Butte area which has been faced with a significant loss of air service into its primary airport, the Gunnison Regional Airport. Gunnison/Crested Butte is considering contributing money to Allegiant service as it is a great opportunity to pool resources and improve regional airline access. A decision will be made within the next couple of weeks.

TMRAO exists to stimulate local economic development by attracting and retaining air service to the Montrose and Telluride region. This is done mainly through revenue guarantees or other risk mitigation partnerships. Without a risk mitigation partnership, most commercial airlines would not fly into the region at the level necessary to sustain the region’s tourism-driven economy. The Colorado Department of Transportation estimates the total economic activity impact to the region from air service to the Montrose and Telluride airports is more than $470 million annually.
